By 2025, 55 percent of Tennesseans will require some type of degree beyond high school to get a job in Tennessee. Currently, only 32 percent of Tennesseans have some type of postsecondary degree or certificate. A recent study found that 81 percent of Tennessee adults would feel a sense of personal accomplishment by earning a college degree, and 71 percent of Tennessee adults believe it would make them a good role model for their family Between providing for a family, working a job, and paying bills; returning to college can often seem like an unrealistic option for adults. Tennessee Reconnect is Governor Bill Haslam's initiative to help adults enter higher education so that they may gain new skills , advance in the workplace, and fulfill lifelong dreams of completing a degree or credential.
